Line Numbers
Have you ever noticed when you look at
a Westmoreland Catalog or talk to someone about Westmoreland Glass, you
may see a number next to a piece of glass or someone might explain a
piece of glass with a number? Well, the Westmoreland Glass Company had
approximately 3500 molds and one way they found to keep track of their
molds was to give each one a number. The same number may be used for
several molds with the same pattern, or the number may be exclusive for
one mold. The numbers used can be traced back to when the molds were
originated.
Asking for glass by a pattern name at
the factory was futile as they recognized the pattern by line number.
